Boulder CO, 10 November 2022 – Today, TIME's annual list of the Best Inventions features 200 extraordinary innovations changing our lives, including Perennial’s Soil-Based Carbon Removal Verification Platform.

"We're thrilled that our team's hard work at inventing new technologies is getting recognition at this level," said David Schurman, Perennial's co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. "There's a long journey ahead of us and a lot still left to invent, but it's great to pause and look back on what we've already created."

Perennial’s Soil-Based Carbon Removal Verification Platform was recognized alongside  life-mapping artificial intelligence, diamonds made from excess carbon in the air, and the most powerful telescope ever. By fusing machine learning, ground observations, and remote sensing technology, Perennial quantitatively measures soil carbon stock and land-based emissions at continent-level scales with fewer physical input data providing standardized—and more affordable—data to help corporations achieve net-zero targets while putting more offset dollars into farmers’ pockets.

“Perennial empowers every farmer to be part of the solution to climate change,” says Oleksiy Zhuk, co-founder and president of Perennial.

"This recognition is duly named considering time is of the essence,” said Jack Roswell, Perennial's co-founder and Chief Executive Officer. “Congratulations to the Perennial team for their dedication to building technology that unlocks soil as one of the world's largest carbon sinks."

Perennial is gearing up for continued development and releases of its Verification Platform in 2023. Visit www.perennial.earth to stay informed.

ABOUT TIME:

TIME is an American news magazine and website that hosts the world's leading voices, providing commentary on events in news, society, and culture. To compile the list, TIME solicited nominations from TIME’s editors and correspondents around the world, and through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields—such as the electric vehicle industry, green energy, and the metaverse. TIME then evaluated each contender on a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.
